Ali and Nino

Ali and Nino is a moving sculpture by Georgian artist Tamara Kvesitadze. She designed it in 2007 under the title 'Man and Woman', and it was installed on Batumi's seafront in 2010 (Wikipedia). It takes its name from the 1937 novel Ali and Nino, a love story between a Muslim Azerbaijani boy and a Christian Georgian girl.

The two figures are about 8 m tall (Visit Ajara; the Batumi Boulevard site says 7 m). They glide towards each other, meet, pass through one another and drift apart again. After a 2015 storm damaged its base, the sculpture was moved about 50 m inland.

Good to know

  • Come back after dark, when the figures are lit up as they move (Wikipedia).
  • The Alphabetic Tower and the Ferris wheel are right next to it in Miracle Park.
