Ajara Art Museum

The Ajara Art Museum opened on 19 December 1998 in a historic Batumi building that architect Kakha Javakhishvili designed in 1949. Its façade carries a relief frieze by sculptor Tamar Abakelia, and inside, a grand central staircase rises under a decorative stained-glass ceiling. A new gallery opened in 2015, and the permanent exhibition was renewed in January 2023.

The first floor shows 19th-century European masters such as Richard Sommer and Gabriel Schachinger. The second floor traces Georgian art through Niko Pirosmani, Lado Gudiashvili, David Kakabadze, Elene Akhvlediani and other Georgian painters.
