Batumi Cathedral of the Mother of God
ბათუმის ღვთისმშობლის სახელობის ეკლესია
Gothic Revival church built 1898–1903 as a Catholic church, now Batumi's main Orthodox cathedral.
This Gothic Revival church was built between 1898 and 1903 as a Roman Catholic church. The Zubalashvili brothers, Georgian Catholic businessmen and philanthropists, paid for it, and Polish architect Aleksander Rogojski designed it (Wikipedia).
During the Soviet anti-religious campaign of the 1930s it was closed and used for decades as a high-voltage physics laboratory. In 1989 it was handed to the Georgian Orthodox Church. Today it is the main Orthodox cathedral in Batumi and the seat of the Bishop of Batumi and Lazeti.
