Batumi Central Park (6 May Park)
ბათუმის ცენტრალური პარკი
Batumi's first public garden, by Lake Nurigeli, home to the zoo and dolphinarium.
Visit Ajara describes 6 May Park as Batumi's first public garden. Work began in 1881 on the south-eastern side of Lake Nurigeli under Prussian gardener Resler. After his death in 1884, French gardener Mikhail Dalfons took over from 1885 and also led the building of the seaside boulevard.
Today the park has shaded paths among many kinds of trees and shrubs, with views over the lake. The Batumi Dolphinarium and Batumi Zoo are inside the park, and hotels, restaurants and cafés surround it. The Batumi aquarium was also run as part of the park from 1998 (dolphinarium.ge).
