Fadiko Gogitidze

ფადიკო გოგიტიძე

A sculpture of Fadiko Gogitidze, Georgia’s first female pilot, stands at the entrance to Batumi International Airport.

The sculpture honours Fadiko Gogitidze (1916–1940), recognised as the first female aviator in Georgia, and is placed at the entrance to Batumi International Airport. Born in Kobuleti Municipality, Gogitidze graduated from the Tbilisi Flight School in 1936 and worked as an instructor at the Batumi Aeroclub. She died on 20 October 1940 during a test flight in Batumi. A separate Soviet-era sculpture of her in a Batumi park shows a female pilot with a child at her feet admiring an aeroplane.
