Batumi Aquarium

The Batumi demonstrative aquarium opened on 20 August 1966. Its first exhibits included North Pacific pinnipeds, fur seals and Caspian seals. It now shows up to 100 species in about 200,000 litres of water, and most of the fish are bred on site.

Local species include stingrays and thornback rays, sole, mullet and long-snouted seahorses. The exotic tanks hold piranhas, cichlids, gouramis and discus. Since 2011 the aquarium has belonged to the Black Sea Flora and Fauna Scientific Research Center, and it appears on the dolphinarium's website.
