Batumi Botanical Garden
ბათუმის ბოტანიკური ბაღი
Large seaside botanical garden on the Green Cape, north of Batumi, opened in 1912.
The Batumi Botanical Garden covers about 108 hectares on Mtsvane Kontskhi, the Green Cape, roughly 9 km north of Batumi, with views over the Black Sea. Russian botanist Andrey Krasnov began the work in the 1880s, and the garden officially opened on 3 November 1912. Krasnov is buried in the grounds.
Plants are grouped into nine geographic sections, among them East Asia, the Himalayas, Australia, New Zealand, the Americas, the Mediterranean and Transcaucasia. Wikipedia counts more than 2,000 woody species and varieties. The tourism board highlights the citrus, camellia and rose collections and some centuries-old trees.
