Rainy Colchic forest park about 25 km from Batumi, with waterfall, lake and hiking trails.
Mtirala National Park, created in 2006, protects Colchic forests about 25 km from Batumi, where the Kobuleti, Khelvachauri and Keda municipalities meet. Mount Mtirala, 1,335 m high, is one of the wettest places in Georgia, with rainfall often above 4 m a year. Its name means 'the one who cries'.
Chestnut, beech and mixed forests shelter Colchic rhododendron and other rare plants. Brown bear, roe deer and wild boar live here. Every autumn, over a million birds of prey pass through on the Batumi migration route.
