Batumi’s main beach runs for about 7 km along the Boulevard and is covered in pebbles, not sand: thick-soled sandals or water shoes make a real difference. Access is free. The busiest stretch is in the centre; the New Boulevard end is quieter.
For a change of scene, the coast has other beaches between 5 and 21 km away: Makhinjauri, Green Cape, Chakvi, Tsikhisdziri and Kobuleti to the north, Gonio, Kvariati and Sarpi towards the Turkish border. Chakvi and Kobuleti mix shingle and sand; at Gonio the sea gets deep quickly. Each place page gives the distance and a Georgian address to show your driver.
