Batumi Piazza
ბათუმის პიაცა
Italian-style square in Old Batumi with cafés, a clock tower and a large marble mosaic.
Batumi Piazza is a 5,700 m² square in the old town, designed to feel like a small Italian town. Georgian architect Vazha Orbeladze designed it, and most of the surrounding buildings were finished in 2009 (GNTA). The clock tower is its focal point and now houses a boutique hotel.
The central marble mosaic covers 106 m². Georgian-Swiss designer Natalia de Pita-Amirejibi created it in 2010 using marble from 15 countries, and GNTA and Wikipedia describe it as Europe's largest figurative marble mosaic. Cafés, bars, restaurants and an open-air stage surround the square.
