A plaque in Batumi marks the house where the Batumi committee of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party ran an illegal printing press in 1903–1904.

Illegal typography of the RSDLP

The plaque, in Georgian and Russian, marks a house standing in a courtyard in Batumi. From September 1903 to 30 March 1904 the house held the underground printing press of the Batumi Committee of the Caucasian Union of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party (RSDLP). Underground presses printed proclamations, pamphlets and newspapers in Georgia from 1900, and a first illegal press had been set up in Batumi in early 1902 under Joseph Stalin and S. Todria.
