Batumi Lighthouse
ბათუმის შუქურა
Working 19th-century lighthouse in Miracle Park, rebuilt by French engineers in 1882.
Batumi's first port lighthouse was built in 1863 as a cast-iron column with a dioptric lamp. In 1882 French builders replaced it with the octagonal stone lighthouse you see today, topped by a small cylindrical lamp tower (Visit Ajara). It still guides ships, and its light reaches 14 nautical miles.
The building also houses a hydrographic service whose forecasters watch the weather around the clock (Batumi Boulevard). The lighthouse stands where the 41st parallel meets the 41st meridian. It is one of the city's symbols and stands next to the Ferris wheel in Miracle Park.
